Mini Split AC Systems Work Efficiently, Offer Outstanding Features

If you’re considering a ductless mini-split AC system, it’s a good idea to learn how these units work and why their key features make them a great choice for people when traditional HVAC doesn’t fit their needs or budget.

A Simple, Efficient System

Mini-split systems operate in a very straightforward way. Air is taken in from a room through the air handling unit (the unit on the inside wall) and transported to the condenser (the
outdoor unit) through a series of pipes where it contacts coils containing coolant. When the hot air from inside hits the coils, it transfers its energy to them, turning the coolant liquid in the
coils into gas. The gas is then sent to the compressor part of the condenser unit, where it is recycled back into a liquid. This generates cooled air that is then fed to the air handler, where it
is pumped back into the room. After a few cycles, the temperature of the room drops to a comfortable level.

Key Mini-Split Features

Mini split AC systems have gained popularity in the last few years because they are easy to install and offer many features that traditional HVAC units don’t provide. Mini splits also offer plenty of flexibility in how you set up the systems to cool your indoor spaces.

Here are just a few of the advantages of mini splits:

Easy installation: No ductwork is needed for mini split ACs, and the refrigerant lines only  require approximately 3-inch diameter holes, which have no structural impact. Because they
are less complex to install compared to traditional HVAC units, mini splits can generally be up and running in a fraction of the time it would take to install a conventional HVAC system. Support for existing HVAC Units: Mini splits are perfect for supporting an HVAC system when a homeowner builds an addition or has some problem areas in the house that need better AC
coverage. Mini splits can help to take pressure off the existing HVAC saving energy and prolonging the lifespan of the HVAC unit.

Zone control: Mini split systems offer zone flexibility, which means you can control the temperature of different indoor units separately. This is great for multi-room applications
where people like different temperatures or for managing units in rooms that aren’t being used much and don’t need AC. Most mini-split systems make this even easier with remote controls, and even Wi-Fi connections, that allow you to adjust the temperature, fan speed, timer, and other settings by zone.

Energy Efficiency: Because mini split AC units have a small footprint and have the capability to control zones, they are very energy efficient. Mini-split ductless systems exceed ENERGY STAR guidelines, which means they are more energy efficient than the standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Environmentally Friendly: Mini-split units use a refrigerant called R-410A, which was developed to replace the Freon commonly used in HVAC systems. R-410A is a chlorine-free refrigerant that’s known for its zero-ozone depletion potential and meets the EPA's newest, most stringent environmental guidelines. This means a mini-split system will have a minor impact on the environment throughout its lifespan.
